Ok.. now's here's my _long_ biography......
I have been involved with computers ever since 1981 when
I got my first computer, a TI-99/4A. A cassette player,
modules, and a speech synthesizer soon followed. That was my
setup until August 1990. August 1990 brought about an
"Expansion" box with disk drive, RS232 and 32K of extra
memory(which I thought was "The Thing" at the time). I bought
this TI expansion box(which weighs about 40 pounds, talk about
a boat anchor) from a person named Alvin Derouen(1:3803/3.6).
I will never forget the first time I walked in there, he showed
me a demo(or tried to). He had a A2500 set up with a 20"
multisync under WB1.3(still has it and is still using it too).
He tried to show me the VAUX killer demo first, but he couldn't
get it to run because of a bug in Qmouse 1.3. The second demo
he showed me was the Walker 2MB demo with the walker roaming
around an A2000. I was pretty impressed when I saw that demo
and said "wow, that's an awesome machine" and just walked off
happy with my TI-99/4A. April 1991, Alvin lent me a Hayes 1200
modem. I was introduced to the world of BBSing. It was almost
two weeks before the local owner of Radio Shack told me about a
local bulletin board. Exactly one year later, April 1992, I
made my first mistake... I bought a Tandy 1000 SL from my next
door neighbors for $500. I really hated the DOS and the way it
ran things, so I started to want to sell it. June 1992 I got a
second job and talked to one of my friends(Rodrick Babineaux)
and he got me an A500. I paid him in installments and was
_very_ happy with it. For two months I ran it B&W off of a TV.
I finally bit down and bought a A1010(which I still have) from
him as well as a Color A520 adapter from Tenex. I then found
out about the world of FIDOnet. I set up my first
point(1:3803/7.3) off of a IBM bbs(which happened to have ALL
kinds of problems). The Tandy 1000 SL got sold shortly after I
switched points, as a person in the local paper got interested
and bought it from me (good riddance to it). I begged my
parents to get circular dialing(LOS) so I could call
Lafayette(which was LD) and call the Amiga bbs. ($11.00 cap
with a 40 mile radius). I got it, promptly dropped 1:3803/7.3
and became 1:3803/3.4. November came and I had a friend
interested in my A500, so I sold it to him and got a new one.
For Christmas 1992, I got a Magnavox RGB analog monitor(1040 S
clone). Then, I started seeing programs that said "Workbench
2.0 only" and had to get a new computer. Income tax time came,
and I bought my Amiga 600 and 1 meg expansion ram/clock card
for it(really split the cost with my parents). May 1993 and I
received an 85 meg HD for my graduation present. My most recent
additions came when I sold my A500 that I bought in November.
I bought a US Robotics 14.4 and a cordless mouse. So, there you
go, my system setup. I use my Amiga for wordprocessing for
school, telecommunications, FIDOnet mail, games, and many other
things. I plan on staying with Amiga for a long while and
really don't like IBMs at all :-)
I took computer literacy classes in the 8th and 9th grades, and
in the 11th and 12th I took Computer Science I and II. I am a
proud member of the class of 1993 of New Iberia Senior High
School. I also have taken business courses and belonged to the
Future Business Leaders of America(FBLA). My 11th grade year, I
placed at district(Superior) and I placed 7th at State in
Computer Concepts. My 12th grade year, I placed at
district(Superior), placed 1st at State, and attended
National.(July 2nd-9th of this year in Washington D.C.) I have
had plenty involvement in programming contests and Computer
Science rallies throughout my high school years.
For those interested in corresponding with me, netmail me at my
point. I also enjoy bicycling and electronics. I am also
girlfriendless. :-)
Enjoy,
Jonathan D. Guidry
